Have Your Say: Moreland Heritage Gaps Study

The Moreland City Council is undertaking a Heritage Gaps Study, and are currently calling for the public to identify and nominate significant heritage places for potential inclusion in the local planning scheme Heritage Overlay. Following the nomination process an experienced heritage consultant, on behalf of the Council will investigate these sites further against the Heritage Council Criteria for the assessment of Cultural Heritage Significance. A range of different places can be nominated, including buildings, groups of buildings (houses, shops, statues, signage etc.), structures, precincts, and other places of historical importance, including trees, landscapes, parks, churches, schools etc.

Community consultation is an essential component of identifying significant heritage places, particularly in relation to social and cultural connections to place. The National Trust encourages anyone with a place they associate with the cultural heritage of the Moreland municipality to fill in the online nomination form. Nominations are open until 5pm, Wednesday 30th November 2016. The National Trust Heritage Register currently has over 50 places classified within the Moreland municipality, across local, regional and state levels. As such the advocacy team will be conducting a review of the municipality, making recommendations in relation to our own classifications.
