This is the latest heritage amendment to be put forward by the City of Melbourne to plug some gaps in its planning scheme. It follows C186 (“the CBD 99”) gazetted in 2013, and C207 Kensington-Arden-MacAulay (awaiting gazettal). These amendments follow a hiatus of about 30 years of virtually no new heritage controls in the City. The City of Melbourne is to be congratulated on bringing these amendments forward after so many false starts in the 1990s and early 2000s. Of particular interest in this amendment are two post-war places – the 1965 former TAA Building in Franklin Street by Harry Norris & Assoc’s, and the 1994 Melbourne Apartments at 416 Queen Street by Nonda Katsalidis.

Amendment C198 will proceed to a panel in May 2014 to hear submissions. Of 28 submissions, less than 20 are objections.
